"new, softer fimo and lower baking temperatures"

I heard through the grapevine that Fimo has been shipping very soft white Fimo Classic and has lowered the temperature to 230 degrees. This could cause major overbaking and darkening, possibly even bubbling if used with older Fimo that is baked at 265 degrees. What can you tell us about what's going on. If this is true and Fimo continues to change is formulations for all colors, what clay do you recommend that has the most similar attributes as Fimo Classic?

Hi there,

Sorry, I'm moving to another state in just two more days and I've not been visiting this board much - I apologize for the delay.

Yes, Fimo has begun recommending 230º - but I'm hearing from a lot of people that they're curing at 265º.

Someone at EF actually told a customer that they're lowering the temperature because of liability issues. An experienced clayer knows that they should cure at 265º and not to go much higher than that. I would say to go ahead and cure at the normal 265º - I don't trust 230 - maybe it's just me being old and set in my ways.

Have fun!
