"color matching cernit"

   Hi All:

Wonderful forum! Amazing level of expertise in this group.

The short story: I am chair of committee organizing local bead "challenge" where everyone starts with seed packet X and makes something spiffy. Rules indicate additional materials must "match" seed colors. The off white proving to be quite difficult to match. Natural bone would have worked if I could find the right size, shape and so forth. Alas. Thwarted by the bead goddess again.

So.... ordered via web one of every color FIMO Classic and necessary equipment needed to learn new tricks. I anticipate the adventure into clay will be enjoyable and highly enlightening.

While waiting for shipment of new toys I found Cernit, in "champagne" locally. Color matches the bone white I seek. Problem is Cernit doesn't appear a good choice for cane work. Would like help getting to this color in FIMO Classic. I suspect Cernit manufacturer used combination of red-yellow-blue to achieve this light tannish white. It looks like a tertiary mix.

Thinking I will use one red-yellow-blue and marry those into combination suitable for the five colors required in my project. The bone white being the most difficult.

Thanks for any guidance you may provide!
JYT

Hi there,

I'm insanely packing and cleaning, here so I'm sorry I missed your question.

Yes, start with a mix of 2 parts yellow, one part red and one part blue - these would be very small "parts." (quarter-teaspoons?)

Adjust to get a dark version of the bone color that you want, then add a tiny bit of this tint to a 1oz chunk of white.

You could also try a tiny bit of Sahara Fimo Soft.

Have fun!
