"New in town"

Hi! Just joined your forum tonight. I recently relocated to NJ and am POOPED. Anyway,I've been working w/polymer clay for a few years but really not too seriously. I want to get together possibly with people from around here to really get more serious. I love working with clay,it's fun, interesting,& I especially enjoy making gifts for people. I hope to be good enough to sell my work(and maybe get people interested in it also.)
I hope to meet some friends here to share tips, bloopers, successes, whatever. Talk to you later ,katymeg

Hello and welcome!

I'm not around much lately - trying to move. (ugh!)

Please feel free to ask questions and post pictures of your work - there are lots of nice people who check in here occasionally.

Have fun!

I have a darling friend who has covered a lamp base with clay - Joanie, aka "clayshaypr." You can see it sitting on the table in this photo:
http://www.pbase.com/joanie/image/15848999

You can buy plain white ceramic lamps, take them apart, cover them and cure them, then re-assemble after you're done sanding and buffing/glazing the cured clay.

You can also make lampshade "fabric" from Liquid Sculpey on large sheets of glass. Cut to fit the framework of the shade and glue onto the frame. Make sure that the temperature at the closest point on the shade to the bulb doesn't exceed 300º - you might have to use very low wattage bulbs in order to do this, depending upon the size of the shade.

In the first issue of PolymerCAFE, Shirley Rufener wrote a beautiful tutorial for creating a polymer clay lamp with translucent clay and TLS. You can see a picture at the bottom of this page, but the issue is sold out, so you'll have to try eBay to get a copy of it.

Good luck and have fun!

Well good luck to anyone considering moving, having just moved or getting ready to move. What a nightmare! I'm still trying to recover from my cross country move in May.

Elizabeth, thanks for that picture of your friends lamp, what a great idea! I'm always looking for new projects to incorporate clay into home decor. this is going to be my next project for sure.

Banu, adorable figurines, good luck with your new venture.

Hi! Just got back from vacation saw your message. Nice to meet you!
Took a peek at your website..couldn't decide which I liked most, one was better than the next. (Can you give me info on how to set up a site..cost,etc.?)
As far as selling,I know very little really. My neice found a place where you can actually rent a shelf & sell your crafts. Haven't been there yet but I'll get there very soon. I also e-mailed someone on our town chamber of commerce about stuff & she mentioned an art league in town, which I have yet to check out. I'm just winging it at the moment. FIRST,I have to get a job.
Sorry I can't be of more help right now. If I learn anything,I'll definitely write you. Write back & tell me more about you(how long you've been claying,etc....)
Check you later,
Kaye
