"Intruction and question"

I have recently started doing sculpey. I really enjoy it and have purchase many supplies and books. I even purchased a Rubbermaid drawer container to hold all my supplies, clay and molds. This is how serious I am about it. I have been working with Sculpey three because it is the only clay locally that is easy for me to work with. I have though recently run into some problems with the sculptures either being to top heavy or worst of all pieces falling off. Things like the head (even when I use a toothpick), the arms, the feet. You think of it and it falls off. I have become very discouraged and not worked with the clay for a couple of months now. I really want to get back into the hobby and get better. I think I have potential. So if anyone can help me with either of my problems or both I would truly appreciate it. Thanks
Misty.

First of all don't be discouraged by any "happy accidents". We all learn from our mistakes and failures. Some of the best stuff I've done has many "repairs" to them.

Pick up some books on sculpting. I highly suggest Katherine Dewey's books(link below). Start with her animal book even if you realy want to do people. Animals are easier and faster to learn from. Keep in mind that her lessons may not be the best way to do something but are good ways to teach somebody how to do something.

SculpeyIII is not a very good clay for sculpting and the problems you're having may be due to this. Try out Premo, Kato Polyclay, Super Sculpey or firm super sculpey(my favorite). Each is a little different and only through experimentation will you find one that fits you.

Armatures are very important in sculpting with PC and a toothpick isn't a very good armature. While you may be an amature/beginner/hobbiest you can't expect professional quality if your not using professional quality materials and techniques.

Here's some tutorials. They may not be for things you want to do, but you can get a lot out of them that apply to other subjects.
