Instructor: Jean Cohen
Workshop Cost: $125
This is a two-day intermediate to advanced workshop.
In this box workshop we will learn how to make a hinged lidded box and a pillow box using completely different techniques. We will use a variety of techniques to decorate our boxes. I am encouraging everyone to decorate their clay before they come to save much time. That is to say prepare some veneers – thin layers to be used as surfaces for your boxes.
You can decorate the piece at the workshop if you wish.

LIDDED BOX:
Supplies needed:
1. The lidded box will be 1 3/4 inches high and 2 1/2 inches long
(4 sides needed to make the box)
2. A lid approximately 2 3/4 by 2 3/4
3. Make enough clay to create these 5 pieces (4 sides and the lid) Roll this clay out on #1 (thickest layer on the pasta machine) and then add a layer of #3 to the back BEFORE decorating so the box is thick enough to get good joints and thick enough to hold the hinge.
NOTE: Do not cut the pieces out until you get to the workshop and do not make it too far ahead as we need clay soft enough to get a good join on all 4 sides.
Decorating suggestions: create a skinner blend, decorate with cane slices, silk screen, makome gane, etc.
4. Liquid Polymer clay with brush, tissue blade, work surface, ruler, needle tool, small roller, deli papers, x-acto knife, glue, tiny drill bit.
Note: It also helps to already have a pattern cut in the sizes you will be making so you don't have to do as much measuring.

PILLOW BOX:
1. Decorate a piece of 4x4 clay on #1 (you can also make it 5x5 if you want a larger one). Again, you can decorate the piece at the workshop if you wish.
2. Some small round punches to create feet and some of the tools from above will also be used.
