EXPLORING TEXTURE SHEETS AND METAL CLAY BEADS

Description:
Instructor: Barbara Becker Simon

Workshop Cost $200.00

This is a 2 Day Workshop

In the first part of this workshop, a minimum of 6 different methods of making texture plates for use with metal clay will be presented.
Everything from making molds of textures to photo polymer plates will be demonstrated. We will also explore sources for textures. Some of the techniques will be hands on and students will take home an example of the texture plate.
In the second part, we will make 2 different kinds of hollow forms (Lemon Wedge Bead and Donut Bead) in metal clay using some of the texture plates students created.

Note: Previous experience with PMC is necessary to take maximum advantage of the subject matter.

Students will need to bring:

1. Any close up eyewear needed
2. Notebook and sharp pencil
3. One or two blocks of metallic Sculpey III polymer clay
4. Optional: #1 Speedball Linoleum carving tool with handle
and/or V-shape or U-shape Dockyard carving tool(s)
** A NUMBER OF THESE CARVING TOOLS WILL BE ON LOAN FOR THE STUDENTS TO USE AND DOCKYARDS ARE FOR SALE AT PCE.
5. Metal clay: 3 to 4 packs of PMC Plus (28 gr. ea.) or PMC3 (25 gr. ea.)
6. Slip (purchased or self-made in class)
7. Personal metal clay tools (including ruler, xacto knife, emery boards, a sheet of 220 wet/dry emery paper, favorite texture plates.)

Homework:
Please bring some black and white images to class for tear away and lo-tech photo etch. Any black and white image, photo, original drawing, or text can be used to create a texture sheet onto which PMC can be impressed or rolled. Color images must be converted to black and white. The over all image should be about 3" x 4" and the scale should be small, suitable for the size of the beads we create. For instance, a one inch by one inch checkerboard design is too big in scale for a 1inch metal clay bead.
